Scope
The 45th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (IEEE ICDCS 2025) is the premier international forum for researchers and practitioners to present, discuss and exchange cutting edge ideas as well as the latest findings on topics related to all aspects of distributed computing systems. ICDCS 2025 will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, from July 20th to July 23rd, 2025 (https://icdcs2025.icdcs.org/).
IEEE ICDCS 2025 will feature a Doctoral Consortium track in conjunction with the conference. The Doctoral Consortium (DC) track aims to provide a unique platform for graduate students in Distributed AI/ML and Distributed Computing Systems to present and receive expert feedback on their research ideas, ongoing efforts, activities, and results. The DC track also offers graduate students the opportunity to network with other PhD students and senior researchers / practitioners, and to receive constructive feedback, guidance, tips about their work, as well as learn about cutting-edge research problems and methodologies being tackled by the community, in both academia and industry.
ICDCS 2025 is now seeking submissions to the DC track from graduate students at all stages of their PhD programme. PhD Students who have recently completed their research proposal, or about to do so (i.e., typically 2nd year PhD students) or students who still have time to take into account the feedback from the DC in July 2025 are particularly welcome to submit a contribution. Students will be selected based on the likely benefit they will receive from participating in the Doctoral Consortium at that point in their studies and on the potential of their research for future impact on the field of Distributed Computing Systems and Distributed AI. Contributions to the DC track can be related to, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML) for Distributed Systems
- Distributed Systems for AI/ML
- Distributed AI/ML, Federated Learning & Distributed Analytics
- Distributed Systems, Applications (e.g., LLMs and RAG Deployments) & Infrastructure
- Big Data & Big Models
- Cloud, Edge and Mobile Computing
- Internet of Things & Cyber Physical Systems
- Trustworthy AI
- Blockchain & Distributed Databases
- Distributed Computing System in Energy & Manufacturing
- ML/AI Scheduling, ML Compilers & Runtime
- Distributed & Parallel Learning Algorithms
Doctoral Consortium Paper Submission
The DC submission consists of two parts:
Part 1: A DC paper will be in the form of research statement being the basis for detailed discussions at the DC, and should include:
- Motivation for the proposed research,
- Background and related work (including key references),
- Description of proposed research, including main research questions,
- Research methodology and proposed experiments (where appropriate), and
- Specific research issues for discussion at the DC.
Part 2: A brief statement (1 paragraph) by their advisor saying how the student would benefit by attending the DC. Advisors should also specifically state whether the student has written, or is close to completing, a thesis proposal (or equivalent), and when they expect the student to defend their dissertation if they progress at a typical rate.
All Doctoral Consortium papers should follow the IEEE 8.5″ x 11″ two-column format using 10pt fonts and the IEEE Conference template (downloadable by selecting “Conferences” in the IEEE-Template Selector https://template-selector.ieee.org/). Each DC paper can have up to four (4) pages (including figures, tables, appendices, and references). Papers exceeding this page limit or with smaller fonts will be desk-rejected without review. The DC paper review process is single-blind.
The PhD students will also be given the opportunity to bring and present a poster about their accepted contribution in the DC. Posters offer the opportunity to present research work in progress to experts and receive valuable feedback. The consortium encourages networking and discussion among peers, which may lead to possible collaborative efforts.
All accepted and presented papers will be included in the IEEE ICDCS-W companion conference proceedings. For each accepted submission, at least one author is required to pay a full author registration and attend the conference in-person to present their work on-site. No-show paper will be reported to the publisher and removed from the conference proceedings.
Note that the authors should adhere to ethic and professional standards of IEEE. Please refer to IEEE Code of Ethics and IEEE Policy of AI-Generated Text.
